Donated Dental Services Coordinator Named; Program Officially Started in Iowa

ANKENY IA, November 18, 2005--The Iowa Donated Dental Services program has hired a coordinator to assist elderly Iowans and persons with disabilities in need of comprehensive dental care. Naomi Guinn-Johnson, who brings more than 10 years of experience in working with patients and dental providers, will serve as the Iowa coordinator for the Donated Dental Services program.

In May Delta Dental of Iowa announced a contribution of $80,000 in startup funding for the Donated Dental Services program, administered by the National Foundation of Dentistry for the Handicapped. The Iowa Dental Association is also an active partner in the program. Donated Dental Services is in operation in 36 states across the country and will provide more than $15 million in care to 6,000 individuals this year. More than 50 Iowa dentists have volunteered for the program, and nearly 200 are expected to join.

Dentists who wish to volunteer for the Donated Dental Services program or individuals with disabilities who may need donated oral health services may call Guinn-Johnson at 515-964-0034 during normal business hours.
