ANKENY, Iowa - June 3, 2005 - Delta Dental Plan of Iowa announced a new award to recognize exemplary dental record keeping at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry. The Delta Dental Treatment Planning and Documentation Award will recognize a graduating dental student who has demonstrated exemplary skills in the treatment planning of patients' needs, the case presentation of available treatment options, and the documentation of these best practices in the patients' clinical record. The amount of the award is $3,000. Janelle Eckdhal, a native of Shullsburg, Wisconsin, is the award winner for 2005. "Delta Dental Plan of Iowa is pleased to recognize exemplary treatment planning and documentation," said Dr. Ed Schooley, vice president and dental director, Delta Dental Plan of Iowa. "We strongly encourage Iowa's future dentists to practice thorough and accurate documentation throughout their professional careers." Inadequate record keeping is one of the more frequent dental practice deficiencies observed by malpractice attorneys and the board of dental examiners. To help highlight and address this problem, Delta Dental Plan of Iowa created the Delta Dental Treatment Planning and Documentation Award. This award is part of the public service mission of Delta Dental Plan of Iowa, which donates funds each year to improve the oral health of Iowans, expand access to dental care, and support the professional development of dentists and dental care providers. Delta Dental Plan of Iowa is the largest and most experienced provider of dental benefits in the state. The Iowa plan is a member of the Delta Dental Plans Association, a national organization of not-for-profit Delta Dental plans. The national association is the largest dental benefits carrier in the nation providing coverage to more than 45 million people in nearly 76,000 employer groups. |
