Does Fluoridated Water Scare You?
Have you ever seen a child with rampant tooth decay? That's a child who is suffering. That's a child who can't concentrate in school, can't eat well, who won't thrive. That's a child whose chances for a better life are already limited, just because he or she has bad teeth.
Why is fluoride in public water systems so controversial if it's already done so much good? How can a process that's been around for decades and has proven results continue to garner distrust?
Maybe it's our general lack of trust in our government. Maybe there's a connection between our elected officials' dismal approval ratings and the public's concern over a chemical added to the majority of the country's public water supply.
Not so outlandish once you think about it.
The fact of the matter is – fluoridated water has prevented countless cases of cavities and needless suffering in children. Water fluoridation has been endorsed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the U.S. Surgeon General, the American Dental Association, and the medical establishment as a whole.
It's easy to feel cynical about our elected officials. Heck, I sure do. But, don't let it limit our children's futures. Keep fluoride in your county's water supply. Our children are counting on us.
