Dental Practices Affected by Derecho Still Eligible to Apply for Delta Dental of Iowa Disaster Assistance Grant

Posted on October 19, 2020 in Corporate

Many Iowa dental practices were still recovering from COVID-19 shutdowns when the rare derecho storm tore across the state on August 10. Delta Dental of Iowa’s Disaster Assistance Grant Program announced in late August that grants were available to dentists who experienced a total or significant loss to their practices. The grant program is still available, assistance forms will be accepted until November 1.

Delta Dental will award grants up to $2,000 for an individual dental practice and $4,000 for multiple dentists practice. To date, 15 grants have been awarded to individual and group dental practices for a total of $50,000.

“During and after the derecho, dental offices experienced everything from major infrastructure damage to tree and signage losses,” said Suzanne Heckenlaible, executive director of the Delta Dental of Iowa Foundation. “Dentists are small businesses which have been significantly impacted by the pandemic and the storms in 2020. These Delta Dental Disaster Assistance Grants are one way we can help them recover and continue to serve Iowans for their oral and overall health care needs.”

In addition, Delta Dental and its Foundation committed more than $20,000 to derecho relief efforts to date in Eastern and Central Iowa. These relief efforts include monetary donations and supplies such as toothbrushes, facemasks, hand sanitizer and water bottles.
