Iowa Department of Health and Human Services awards Delta Dental of Iowa contract for Iowa Dental Wellness Plan and Hawki programs

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has announced its intent to award Delta Dental of Iowa as one of the Iowa Dental Wellness Plan and Hawki Dental Pre-Paid Ambulatory Health Plans (PAHP) benefit carriers.

“At Delta Dental of Iowa, we believe healthy smiles and healthy lives are closely connected,” said April Schmaltz, interim co-CEO. “For more than 18 years, Delta Dental of Iowa has been proud to provide dental benefits for the State of Iowa’s Hawki and Medicaid programs.  We are pleased to continue this partnership with HHS and Iowa dentists to make quality dental care accessible to more Iowans.”

Delta Dental of Iowa has provided dental benefits for Hawki since 2005, the Dental Wellness Plan since 2014, and Dental Wellness Plan Kids since 2021. These three programs currently serve more than 750,000 Iowans.

At this time, there are no immediate changes to the Dental Wellness Plan and Hawki Dental PAHP. As Delta Dental of Iowa and HHS work on the program’s future together, any changes will be communicated to dentists and members closer to July 1, 2024 plan effective date.
