Delta Dental of Iowa and Foundation Provide $3.8 Million in Total Giving in 2020

In 2020, Delta Dental of Iowa and its Foundation contributed more than $3.8 million in total giving to 330 organizations to address oral and overall health needs as well as the urgent needs created by COVID-19 and the derecho across the state of Iowa. Delta Dental also invested more than $12.9 million in COVID relief and recovery efforts for providers, customers and community partners.

“While 2020 was not business as usual, our team continued to provide exceptional quality service to our dental and vision customers,” said Jeff Russell, president and CEO, Delta Dental of Iowa. “We also recognized the impact of the pandemic on our providers, customers, and communities. As a leader in the health industry, our team met the challenge and stood up in a variety of ways to support Iowans as we navigated the unique conditions of this past year.”

Delta Dental invested in opportunities across all 99 counties to increase access to healthcare and improve the health and smiles of Iowans, sparking change and advancing a commitment to health equity. Highlights of projects and grant programs in 2020 include:

• Awarded four FIND (Fulfilling Iowa’s Need for Dentists) Loan Repayment recipients.
• $1.36 million to address COVID-19 relief in the areas of food security, nonprofit operations, health equity funding, and support for nonprofit healthcare clinics.
• System and Capacity Building Grants totaling $919,000 which included $250,000 to Primary Health Care in Ames to expand its dental clinic and $200,000 to Iowa Department of Public Health to continue the I-Smile @ School™ program.
• Direct charitable contributions and derecho disaster grants totaled $723,707 and included support for vision nonprofits, emotional health programs and training, veteran dental care and food bank programs.
