April, 25 | "Caregiving: It's More Than a Full-Time Job for Your Employees"

According to a 2020 AARP report, nearly 1 in 5 U.S. workers are also providing care to an ill, aging or special-needs adult. Caregiving stress affects the mental, physical and financial health of employees, but many remain silent about their situation for fear of losing their job or missing out on a promotion.

Our next Green Room, “Caregiving: It’s More Than a Full-Time Job for Your Employees,” will explore how caregiving is impacting today’s workforce and how employers can support their employees. Consider these statistics from the AARP report:

  • Caregivers spend an average of nearly 24 hours a week providing care.
  • The median age of caregivers of adults is 51, and 61% of caregivers are female.
  • 15% of employee caregivers surveyed went from full-time to part-time work, and 11% either quit working or retired early due to the demands of caregiving.
  • 28% of caregivers are caring for both a child and an aging adult – falling into the sandwich generation.
