FACT: People with dental coverage are more likely to see the dentist.

If you have dental benefits, you should be using them! Most plans cover a percentage of your procedures up to a specific dollar amount. You pay the rest.

Take advantage of your dental benefits – both your smile and wallet will thank you!

A new year is the perfect time to schedule any dental work for 2015. You also may be eligible for tax deductions. You can check with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) or your accountant to learn what dental procedures qualify for potential deductions. Dental cleanings, treatments and artificial teeth can be tax-deductible.

Why visit the dentist? Prevention is the best medicine. According to the American Dental Association, you should visit the dentist twice annually for a cleaning and check up. If you haven't been to the dentist in the last 6 months, it's time to schedule an appointment.

Start 2015 off with a healthy smile:

  • Use your dental benefits. Take advantage of your coverage, especially for preventive care.
  • Review your benefits contract so you know what's covered, as well as your financial responsibility.
  • Manage your Delta Dental of Iowa benefits online. You can also use Delta Dental's mobile app for access website features – including dentist search, claims, coverage and your ID card.
  • Finally, don't forget to schedule your dentist appointments for the year!
