June Gloom has been a favorite nickname for this month, mostly for people on the West Coast where overcast is a regular visitor. Here in Iowa, we have no necessity for such a nickname. We enjoy all June has to offer. Long summer days allow us more time spent outside. Rainstorms bring lush landscapes. And June 17th brings Father's Day!

Father's Day is an important holiday for most families. Like Mother's Day, it is a chance for children of all ages to celebrate their Father and present him with a gift in honor of all the gifts he has given you.

Traditionally when choosing a gift, you can go one of two directions. You can opt to give your Father a traditional gift such as a tie or a tool he has been wanting, or you can opt for something more personal and sentimental such as a scrapbook or photo collage.

When deciding what type of gift to give your Father, think about what Father's Day really is all about. It is about honoring your Father in the best way you see fit. There has never been a cookie cutter recipe to the perfect Father's Day gift because all Fathers are different.

It is important to spend some time thinking about what your Dad would really appreciate. Do you rarely express your feelings to your Father? Maybe a sentimental gift is just the right thing to close that gap.

Do you always tell your Dad how much he means to you and express your love regularly? A new wrench set may be just what the doctor ordered for your Father this year.

Remember, the purpose of Father's Day is to give thanks to your Father for the wonderful life he gave you and to show him your appreciation. No matter if you get your dad something sentimental or practical, express how grateful you are for his presence!

Happy Father's Day to all the wonderful Dad's!
