COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update

Updated: March 23, 2020 4:50 p.m.

A message to our members, dentists, employees and business partners on our response to COVID-19

The overall health of our members, dentists, employees, and business partners is our highest priority. We are actively monitoring the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation and want to assure you that we have developed a strategy across our organization to respond to evolving circumstances while meeting the needs of our customers and business partners. We are committed to ensuring our members receive the care and services they need, and our network dentists are supported during this challenging time.

For Our Members

We are working closely with network dentists, employers, and our team to ensure your dental and vision health needs are met. Our customer service team is available during normal business hours (Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm CST) at 800-544-0718. In addition, our comprehensive website is available 24 hours a day – 7 days a week to find information about your benefits.

As of March 16, state and federal agencies (the American Dental Association and the Iowa Dental Association) have recommended that dentists postpone all elective, non-essential dental procedures for at least three weeks.

Here are a few reminders if you have a dentist or eye appointment:

  • If you or your family members are not feeling well, you should stay at home. Be sure to contact your provider to cancel and reschedule your appointment.
  • If you have any questions about an upcoming appointment, you should contact your provider.
  • Many providers are asking additional screening questions related to COVID-19 such as if you have traveled overseas or if you have any respiratory symptoms. Your provider may also take your temperature.
  • For more information on what is a dental emergency, please see the guidance from the ADA.

Oral and vision health are important to your overall health. There are many things you can do at home to stay healthy such as drinking water, take a vision break, and eat healthy. For more tips, signup for our Healthy You Newsletter or visit our blog.

For our Employer and Broker Customers

We know you are working hard to balance the needs of your business while supporting your employees. We want to assure you we are committed to doing everything we can to minimize disruptions while continuing to partner with you during uncertainty. We will continue to serve your employees by making our customer service team available during normal business hours to answer questions, and process claims. We are complying with the Iowa Insurance Division’s bulletin 20-04 related to the COVID-19 epidemic and the resulting economic disruptions.

As always, if you have any questions please contact Team Service at 877-983-3582  or email TeamService@deltadentalia.com.

For our Network Dentists

We understand this has been incredibly disruptive to your practices and we know you are working hard to balance the needs of your patients, employees, business and family. We want to assure you that we will do everything possible to be responsive and avoid causing any further disruption to your practice. To support Iowa dentists during the COVID-19 situation, Delta Dental of Iowa is introducing the Advance Claims Payment Program (ACPP). This program will allow dentists to receive up to 50% of their average weekly claims payment in advance for four weeks. These advance payments are interest-free and will be recovered over a 20-week period beginning in July. We are here to support you and answer any questions you have; our provider relations team is available to you at 800-544-0718. We will stand with you as you determine what is best for your patients and your practice.

For our Nonprofit Community Partners

Our state’s nonprofit organizations will be among those adversely impacted by COVID-19 and related closures, as these organizations simultaneously serve on the frontlines. The health and vitality of our nonprofit partners is crucial to our success. The Foundation recognizes the economic consequences of COVID-19 on the stability of the nonprofit sector and is committing $500,000 for the COVID-19 Nonprofit Emergency Operating Relief Fund. This program will provide operating grants up to $10,000 to Iowa nonprofit organizations focused on providing health and wellness services or addressing food insecurity needs during this crisis.

For our Delta Dental Team

We have been working daily to protect the health and well-being of our employees and their families. With the exception of a few specific team members, all employees will continue to work from home as necessary. Employees working on site are practicing proper social distancing and we have increased cleaning, added sanitation supplies, and are focused on the preventive measures necessary to reduce the potential spread of disease.

We will continue to actively monitor information from many sources including our Governor Kim Reynolds, the Iowa Department of Public Health, the ADA, the White House, DHS, CDC and other public health agencies each day to make informed decisions that support our community.
