Do You Over-Consume Sugar?

By Jill Feilmeier on December 26, 2013 in Healthy Living

As an American, sugar is built into our daily lives. Children drink chocolate milk for breakfast, students reach for it in vending machine snacks, and adults have a stash of candy hidden away in their desks for their 3pm crash.

With so much sugar around us, it is important to remember that the American Heart Association recommends no more than 25 grams of sugar for women and 39 grams of sugar for men, per day! Considering 1 can of soda surpasses that amount, how much over the amount of recommended sugar are you consuming every day?

If the thought of ditching your treats gets you a little nervous, start out small. Reduce your soda consumption to one a day. Skip your 3pm treat every other day. Swap out a sugary pastry for a chocolate cream yogurt.

Each change is a step in the right direction and less sugar means healthier teeth, and maybe a few pounds melting off as well!
