With gas prices trending lower than they have in years, Memorial Day Weekend travel is projected to be on the rise.  If you're preparing to hit the road for this holiday weekend, here are some smart snacks to help break up the miles without damaging smiles:

• Trick your sweet tooth.

Soothe your cravings with a cup of frozen yogurt instead of ice cream or milkshakes. The calcium in yogurt provides healthy minerals for your teeth, without adding excess sugar. Lactose intolerant? Freeze low-sugar juice in a popsicle mold for an icy treat!

• Don't be a (fried) chicken.

We get it – fast food happens for road trips, especially if you're catering to a car-full. Though crispy chicken might be your first choice, try ordering grilled instead. Grilled chicken contains vitamin B3, which helps combat bad breath and boosts your metabolism.

• Go nuts!

Nuts are loaded with protein and don't promote tooth-decay. Grab a handful of almonds for a boost of energy.

• Say “H2O-no” to sugary drinks.

You may need to plan for a few extra pit-stops, but make sure to stay hydrated and drink plenty of water. Water washes away acids that can erode tooth enamel, and promotes saliva production.

Wherever you're headed – we hope you have a happy, safe, and healthy Memorial Day Weekend!
