I-Smile Care Coordination

Delta Dental of Iowa partners with the statewide I-Smile program for DWP Kids. I-Smile is a statewide program that connects Iowans with dental, medical, and community resources to ensure a lifetime of health and wellness.

There are 23 I-Smile coordinators who help connect children and families to dental care across all 99 Iowa counties. They work with dentists and dental office staff, medical providers, school nurses, teachers and administrators, businesses, civic organizations, and social service organizations. These coordinators work for county health departments or private, non-profit organizations to administer I-Smile in all 99 Iowa counties.

I-Smile coordinators:

  • Provide dental screenings and apply fluoride for children at WIC clinics, Head Start centers, preschools, child care sites, and in schools.

  • Help coordinate dental appointments by letting parents know what dentists will see them and can set up transportation.

  • Promote the importance of oral health by participating in community events, such as library reading hours, health fairs, and county fairs.

I-Smile is managed by the Iowa Department of Public Health.
